There are several ways that "going green" at home could save you money and increase the value and efficiency of your home. Consider some of these eco-friendly adjustments. Save Water • Fix leaky faucets. • Turn off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving. • Opt for filtered water or water delivery vs. individual bottled water. • Install low-flow shower heads & toilets, which can cut water consumption by half. • Use DEP rain barrels to collect rain to use for watering the lawn instead of running the hose. Conserve Energy • Ensure your home has good insulation to hold in heat. • Invest in or upgrade to Energy Star Appliances, which use 10% - 50% less energy and often come with STAR rebates. • Invest in Smart appliances like thermostats, lighting or even meters that can monitor and control your energy usage in real-time. • Invest in solar panels to reduce monthly bills and increase the value of your home. There also may be current tax benefits available. Reuse & Recycle • Try composting at home - food scraps and yard waste can be used to help plants grow. • Don't throw out those empty glass jars and containers. They can be used as storage for pantry items, desk supplies, or bathroom items. • Donate old items or clothing instead of throwing them in the trash.
