Summer Savings Tips

1) Air Conditioning – Try to only use your air conditioner when necessary and use a ceiling or floor fan instead which consumes a lot less energy. Use the “energy saver” option found on most AC’s which allow you to program at what temperature you want the air to kick in. Also, make sure you change your AC’s air filter regularly as dirty filters are less efficient.

2) Electricity – Take advantage of the extended daylight hours during the summer months. Shut off the lights and open curtains and windows to let in natural light and fresh air when it’s not too hot out.

3) Laundry – Instead of using the dryer, hang your clothes outside to dry for free. If you need to use the dryer, run it at night to minimize indoor heat during hot days.

4) Cooking – Instead of using the stove, oven or other kitchen appliances, cook outside with an outdoor grill or smoker. It is more cost efficient and avoids additional heat inside your home. Also, buy fruits and vegetables from local farmers markets and stands. They are usually fresher and cheaper than grocery stores.

5) Lawn Care – Water your lawn early in the morning or late at night to save money on your water bill. During the day, the water will evaporate much more quickly than at other points in the day which means it’ll require more water.

6) Budget – Summer is the hardest month to save so make sure to stick to a budget. Allot a certain amount to your bills and everyday expenses to make sure you have enough money left over to travel and enjoy all the fun activities summer has to offer.
